Basket Weaving

The oldest baskets found have been carbon dated back to about 10,000 to 12,000 years. However, since baskets are made from biodegradable materials, basketry has most likely been around for a much longer period of time

Materials that are commonly used for weaving are reed, bamboo, bark, certain grasses, pine needles, and yucca

Northwest native Americans use baskets to gather, store, prepare and cook food and also use them in ritual activities. They use western red cedar and certain sea grasses for baskets
