Sachets began in China, they were used as bags to hold small items because ancient clothes didn't have pockets. They were often made out of silk

In medieval Europe, sachets were worn around the neck to ward off germs and parasites. they were also called "plague-bags"
In spring and fall, people started putting dried flowers and herbs in the sachets. they would attach the sachets to their body to promote a clean and fragrant environment.
